10 Days in Greece with Kids: Athens, the Peloponnese & Costa Navarino

Ten days of Greece with kids, planned so the history never feels like homework. In Athens a child-friendly guide takes the family up the Acropolis with an augmented reality app that brings the ancient world back to life on screen, and Plaka waits the next day with ice cream and souvenir shops. Then the Peloponnese: the Corinth Canal on the way to Nafplio, the Lion Gate at Mycenae, a pottery workshop where the kids make their own Mycenaean piece, and Olympia, where they can run in the stadium the first Olympians trained in. The trip ends with three nights by the sea at Costa Navarino, with water slides, a climbing wall and kayaks.

Highlights

Every guided visit on this trip is private. At the Acropolis your state-licensed guide is trained to work with children, adjusts the tour to their ages and mixes the myths with games, then takes you through the Acropolis Museum and its glass floors over the excavations. In Nafplio you have time to explore the Palamidi Fortress and take the boat out to Bourtzi Castle. At Mycenae a local guide tells the story of Agamemnon among the Cyclopean Walls, and straight after, the kids roll up their sleeves at a pottery workshop with clay, paints and glazes. In Olympia you see the Temple of Zeus and the Hermes of Praxiteles before the transfer to The Westin Resort at Costa Navarino, one of the most family-friendly resorts in Greece, with an aqua park, bowling, a tennis center and kitesurfing lessons.

Welcome to Nafplio!

Today your private transfer will take you to one of the most beautiful towns in the area of Argolis (in eastern Peloponnese) and the first capital of the newly born Greek state between 1823 and 1834, Nafplio!

According to mythology, the town was founded by Nafplios, the son of god Poseidon and the daughter of Danaus (Danaida) Anymone. The town’s history traces back to the prehistoric era when soldiers from here participated in the Argonautic expedition and the Trojan War alike. The town declined during the Roman times and flourished again during the Byzantine times. Frankish, Venetian and Turkish conquerors left their mark in the town and strongly influenced its culture, architecture and traditions during the centuries.

On the way there, we will make a short stop at the famous Corinth Canal. It connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. Though only completed in the late 19th century, it has been an idea of many and a dream dating back over 2000 years! You can admire the Canal from above and learn a bit about its history and have quick bite before continuing.

In Nafplion you will have the rest of the day at your leisure to enjoy wandering through the old town, have a greek-style lunch in one of the local spots and an evening stroll by the sea.
