This Corfu itinerary for families spends ten days on the Ionian side of Greece: one island, a smaller one and a town on the mainland coast. It starts in Corfu Old Town with a soap maker five generations deep and a workshop that turns old sails into bags, then gives the kids a horse ride and an afternoon on reserved sunbeds. A private boat takes you up the northeast coast past the White House at Kalami to lunch in Kassiopi. On Paxos you walk coastal paths between fishing harbors, and from Parga, under its Venetian castle, you visit the Necromanteion of Acheron, where the ancient Greeks believed the road to Hades began. The final full day is for Corfu’s beaches.
Four of the planned days are private. In Corfu Old Town an expert local guide takes you to the Patounis Soap Factory, where handmade olive oil soap is still made with 19th-century methods, and ends with meze and local wine. The horse riding day suits riders of every age and experience, with round-trip transfers and a beach waiting afterward. Your own skipper sails the northeast coast with stops to swim and snorkel, past the tiny chapel of St. Arsenios in the rocks. In Epirus a state-licensed guide tells the story of the Necromanteion of Acheron, where Charon was said to ferry souls across the waters. In between, Paxos gives you a slow day on its coastal paths and a seaside taverna lunch.
Although the island has changed with the passage of time, we can still sense the spirit of a glorious past. Corfu is one of the most cosmopolitan Mediterranean destinations, weaving a powerful spell on its visitors with its rich multi-cultural heritage, historic monuments, stunning natural landscape, crystal clear seas, and excellent weather all year.
Unlike the rest of Greece, Corfu was never ruled by the Ottomans. Because of successive Venetian, French, and British dominances over the centuries, the island has primarily become a part of the Western rather than the Levantine world.
Discover Corfu through its unique blend of craftsmanship, tradition, and flavor. Your experience begins at Salty Bags, a creative workshop where discarded sails are transformed into stylish, sustainable bags, each piece carrying the spirit of the sea. You then continue to the historic Patounis Soap Factory, a fifth-generation family business that still produces handmade olive oil soaps using methods dating back to the 19th century.
The exploration comes to a gentle close in authentic Corfiot style at a local spot, where you will savor a small meze paired with a glass of local wine. It’s a relaxed, flavorful moment that captures the island’s genuine character and offers a delicious glimpse into everyday life in Corfu.

The Nekromanteio was believed to be the entrance to the kingdom of Hades, the underworld. People from all over the ancient world visited this unique oracle to communicate with their loved ones who had passed away. According to legend, the god Hermes guided souls to Hades through Lake Acherousia, connected to the river Acheron, where Charon ferried souls across the waters.
At the confluence of the Kokytos and Acheron rivers, on the northwest bank of Lake Acherousia, the ancient Greeks established the most significant place of worship for the gods of the Underworld, the Acheron Necromancy. This sacred site facilitated communication with the souls of the dead.
In these myth-steeped places, Charon tirelessly transports souls, linking the realms of the living and the dead. Visitors can explore and immerse themselves in the incredible history and legends of this enchanting location, experiencing a unique blend of myth and history.
