Chania is the prettiest town in Crete. A Venetian harbor curves around a lighthouse, the old town is full of small hotels and tavernas, and some of the best beaches in Greece are a day trip away. Our Chania vacation packages mix the town with the mountains, gorges and food of western Crete.
Most of our trips to Chania start in Athens and pair Crete with Santorini, Mykonos or Milos. You will find them all below, from family trips to Greece honeymoon packages.

Stroll out to the old lighthouse in the evening, when the waterfront lights up.

Wander the lanes of the Splantzia and Topanas quarters, full of workshops and courtyards.

Take a boat to the turquoise lagoon and the Venetian fortress of Gramvousa.

Spend a day on the pink-tinged sand and shallow water of Crete's southwest corner.

Walk one of the longest gorges in Europe, from the mountains down to the Libyan Sea.

Visit a family producer and learn why Cretan food is famous across Greece.

Make dakos, pies and slow-cooked lamb with a local cook in a village kitchen.

Spend a day in Crete's other Venetian town, with its fortress and old quarter.
Spring (April to June): Green hills, wildflowers and warm days. A great time for hiking, and the sea warms up by June.
Summer (July and August): Hot and busy, with the warmest sea. We plan beach days early and gorge hikes for the cooler hours.
Autumn (September and October): Warm sea, harvest season and fewer people. One of the best times for Crete.
Winter (November to March): Mild and quiet. Chania stays a living town all year, though many beach hotels close.
Our packages that include Chania start at around €2,000 per person. The price depends on the season, your hotels, how much private guiding you want and how much of Crete you want to see. International flights are extra, and you see an itemized price before you commit. See what a trip to Greece costs.
Three to four nights suits most travelers. That gives you a day in the old town, a boat day to Balos, a beach or gorge day and a food day in the villages. Crete is big, so if you want to see more of the island, add nights rather than long drives.
By air or by sea. The flight from Athens to Chania takes about 50 minutes, and the overnight ferry from Piraeus arrives at Souda port in the morning. We choose the option that fits your route and arrange the transfers on both sides.
For a first trip focused on beaches, food and old-town charm, Chania is the better base. Heraklion is closer to the Palace of Knossos and the east of the island. Many of our trips include both, with a few nights in each.
