Heraklion is the gateway to Minoan Crete. The Palace of Knossos is a short drive from town, the archaeological museum holds the treasures found there, and the hills behind the city are full of vineyards. Our Heraklion vacation packages pair the history of central Crete with its food, wine and beaches.
Most of our trips to Heraklion start in Athens and also include Chania or Santorini. You will find them all below. Every itinerary can change to fit your dates, budget and pace. Browse all our Greece vacation packages.

Spring (April to June): Mild, green and perfect for the archaeological sites.
Summer (July and August): Hot and busy. We visit Knossos at opening time.
Autumn (September and October): Warm sea and grape harvest in the wineries.
Winter (November to March): Mild and quiet, a good time for museums and food.
Our packages that include Heraklion start at around €3,000 per person. The price depends on the season, your hotels, how much private guiding you want and how much of Crete you want to see. International flights are extra, and you see an itemized price before you commit. See what a trip to Greece costs.
Two to three nights suits most travelers. That gives you a day for Knossos and the museum and a day for wineries or the coast. If you want more of Crete, add Chania or eastern Crete rather than more nights in the city.
By air or by sea. The flight from Athens takes about 50 minutes, and overnight ferries from Piraeus arrive in the morning. There are also fast ferries from Santorini in summer.
